Internet Apps for Dating Safely

When it comes to dating, many of us remember the straightforward, no-nonsense advice we got from our mothers: meet in a public place, let others know where you are going, and nothing good happens after 2 a.m. And while your mother usually knows best, sometimes she forgets that these days, there’s an app for that.

Whether you want to get away from a bad date, or feel like you’re in a seriously unsafe situation, there are plenty of safety apps on the market to help you date with proper precaution.

EmergenSee

It’s a portable security system in your pocket. This is one of the best apps on the market, and it’s free for both iOS and Android phones.

EmergenSee

It’s a portable security system in your pocket. This is one of the best apps on the market, and it’s free for both iOS and Android phones. It does let you add optional services for a fee. Once downloaded, the app has you set up three personal contacts from your phone. If you find yourself in an unsafe situation, you can open the app and send an alert to your pre-selected contacts. Once alerted, they will receive a Google map with your location, or if you’re on the move, they can track where you’re headed in real time. The app also streams live video and audio. Another great feature is the Pre-Set Timer. It allows users to set a timed activity, like running or walking the dog, and if you don’t deactivate the timer within the allotted time, it will start notifying your contacts that something may be wrong.

SafeTrek

This emergency app lets you be on alert at all times. If you feel you’re in a potentially unsafe situation, all you have to do is launch the app and hold your thumb over its safe button feature.

Then, if the danger gets real, take your thumb off and the police are alerted immediately. If it turns out to be a false alarm, you can enter a 4-digit code and the emergency call will be canceled. It’s a great way to be ready if you are walking alone or in a potentially volatile situation, and it keeps things discreet.

Kitestring

Like a mom for your phone, Kitestring knows when you don’t check in, and it gets to work.

Kitestring

In order to set it up, you visit the Kitestring website and sign up with your phone number and emergency contacts. The app will send you a text message, prompting you to check in. You can set these messages to arrive every 30 minutes, two hours, five hours or 12 hours. If you don’t respond within five minutes, Kitestring will alert your emergency contacts. There are also options for setting a check-in word or duress code in case someone takes over your phone in an emergency situation.

Watch Over Me

The app lets you pick the activity you’re doing, like jogging, shopping, or showing a house to clients, and select a time limit. If you fail to check-in at the allotted time, the app will send out alerts to your pre-selected contacts.

Watch Over Me

This app’s co-founder had a real life abduction scare which led her to take part in the invention of Watch Over Me. There is a shake-to-alarm feature, so if you are unexpectedly confronted or attacked it can be activated and will immediately turn on the alarm, video camera and send alerts to your emergency contacts.

The app also uses crowd-sourced crime data to warn you when you are in a high-crime area. This feature is available for these cities: New York City, London, Leeds, Melbourne, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.
